About us
One clear answer for the moment the light comes on.
Check My Engine Light is built and run by our team in Terrell, Texas.
We built it for the moment we all know: you are driving, the check engine light comes on, and you have no idea if it means a loose gas cap or a big repair. Most scanners show a code like P0420 and leave you to search for it. We wanted one clear answer: what it means, how urgent it is, and what a fair fix should cost.
What we promise
- A real answer before any sign up or paywall.
- Plain English, and never a code without its meaning beside it.
- We never say a car is safe. We say what to watch for.
- Honest billing: the price and renewal date first, a trial reminder, and cancel in the app.
- No ads.
Where the data comes from
Codes come from your own car through a standard OBD2 adapter. Recalls and VIN details come from NHTSA. Full explanations and Quote Check are written by AI on our server and checked against fixed rules, like urgency floors for misfires, overheating and low oil pressure.
